In a dental emergency, such as significant discomfort, a fractured tooth, facial swelling, or a dislodged filling, it is advisable to reach out to your dentist promptly.
Dental cleaning involves removing dental plaque and tartar from the teeth. Not addressing these might lead to cavities, gum disease, and other oral health complications. Professional cleaning is considered to surpass the effectiveness of regular home care, potentially preventing the advancement of gingivitis to more serious forms of gum disease and contributing to the maintenance of general oral health. Additionally, it could offer an opportunity for your dentist to spot any potential problems at an early stage.
It is generally advised to have your teeth professionally cleaned every six months. This frequency can be adjusted based on individual oral health needs and risk factors. Some people might need more frequent cleanings due to specific issues like gum disease or a tendency to develop tartar quickly. Your dentist will provide personalised advice based on your oral health condition and history.
Tooth sensitivity is often due to the thinning of tooth enamel or exposure of the tooth's root surfaces. It can also result from cavities, gum disease, a cracked tooth, or worn fillings. Consider using toothpaste specifically for sensitive teeth, which can help ease the sensitivity. Avoiding acidic foods and drinks that can further erode enamel is also helpful. If sensitivity persists, consult your dentist, as it may indicate an underlying issue that requires professional treatment.
Dental professionals recommend visiting the dentist at least once every six months for most patients. These regular check-ups can play a significant role in maintaining good oral health by potentially helping identify and manage issues before they become more serious. Nonetheless, it's understood that individual needs can differ, meaning some individuals might need to schedule visits more frequently, depending on their personal oral health condition, past experiences, and various risk factors. Discussing a visitation schedule that aligns best with your particular needs with your dentist is a good idea.
